Celebrant by Sea

Personalised Funerals with Katrina Pike

About Katrina & FAQs

As the name suggests, I live in Shoreham-by-sea, and love it! It’s the first place I’ve lived that really feels like home. You’ll often find me on the move there, walking, cycling, surfing and dancing. I host a monthly music and poetry night called Kollab on a Shoreham houseboat.

I studied Anthropology and my work background includes communications, support work, HR, hospitality. Alongside I’ve written and performed poetry for 18 years. I think being a celebrant brings all these experiences and skills together!

I’ve always been interested in people’s stories and believe it’s so important to recognise beginnings, endings and significant moments along the way. It’s an incredible privilege to learn about each unique life and to create space to celebrate and grieve them.

”Katrina has a gift for holding space – she has an incredible knack with words but also isn’t afraid to add pauses for quiet reflection. I have known her to celebrate love and to celebrate life and she executed both beautifully”

How much does it cost?

Celebrant services cost from £250. It may vary a little depending on the Funeral Director and travel times.

Where do you work?

I can travel within East and West Sussex. 15 miles beyond Shoreham-by-sea may incur some extra cost.

Most services take place at crematoriums but there’s absolutely no rules on this! You could hire a venue or be at home or outside.

What about Funeral Directors?

Sometimes a Funeral Director will connect you with me. But you can also approach me directly and let your FD you’d like to have me as your celebrant. If you’re not sure who to use, I’m happy to give recommendations.

And if you’re not using an FD at all, or want to have a service or celebration before – or a significant time after – the death, that’s totally fine too.

What’s the process?

I’ll arrange to meet with you, and anyone you’d like to have with you, for a couple of hours. This will be a time to learn all about the person who’s died. I’ll have questions to help guide the conversation but it will be informal and at your pace. We’ll also start putting together a draft structure for the service.

I’ll then write the ‘script’ and confirm the running order and various elements of the service, keeping you and the Funeral Directors in the loop and making sure you’re happy with all the details.

On the day I’ll lead the ceremony, welcoming people, introducing different contributors, and weaving a story throughout.
